1. The upper map shows the consolidated position of the Central Powers, constituting the geographical area known as "Mitteleuropa." The shaded parts indicate the conquered territory now (April 1, 1918) under Teutonic control, including the new nation, Ukrania. The general course of the "Berlin to Bagdad" railway, and the alternative route to India across the Black Sea, are also shown. The whole exhibits the German plan for a powerful empire to dominate Europe and Asia. 2. The lower map shows the German African colonies lost to the Entente Allies during the war. |
