The title of this book in English is "Handbook of the
German Navy (War Edition)". The book is
over 600 pages long and could be considered a combination of an Imperial Navy
"Naval Officer's Guide", "Bluejackets Manual", and "Ships and Aircraft" in
one volume. This handy little guide is chock full of photos, line drawings, tables,
charts, and graphs covering every imaginable aspect of the Imperial Germany
Navy, from fleet organization, regulations, and uniforms to ship armor,
propulsion, and weaponry. The book is just packed with useful information.
The many sections include a developmental history of ships, seamanship, and
nautical instruments, a history of the navy, and tables of dimensions, armor
and armament for every major warship, submarine, and airship in the Imperial
Navy. The book also contains a complete description of the Imperial Navy's
shore support infrastructure (including bases, dockyards, and training
installations). This book is extremely rare.

Gerhard Koop wrote a masterful, beautifully illustrated technical history of
battlecruisers of the Imperial German Navy. There is no more detailed book on the
subject. This is a superb treatise on the design and operational history of
"Schlachtkreuzer der Kaiserlichen Marine" (Battlecruisers of the Imperial
Navy), but requires a strong understanding of technical German.

I don't know if it is still in print, my copy was copyright 1962 and was
the
sixth printing in 1974... so I would say it was fairly popular and may
still
be available. My copy came from the book store at the Deutsche Museum in
Munich. Has photos of each ship, technical data, historical information
and as I
noted, a complete list of ships. Down side: the book is in German,
so one
must be able to read some German to use it.

A slim volume by a respected Finnish authority on naval history. I have
not had an opportunity to wade through the German language text, but a
wonderful selection of photos is provided. Makela also wrote a 1936
